The Shevchenko Foundation offers two Kobzar Writers' Scholarships at the Humber School for Writers' creative writing workshop during the International Festival of Authors at Harbourfront in Toronto from Sunday October 23 to Friday October 28 2016. These full tuition scholarships are awarded annually to Canadian writers whose narratives develop with a Ukrainian Canadian theme and are intended to assist the writers to complete their work for publication.

The workshop consists of a Sunday afternoon reception, five weekday classes from 10am to 1pm, a lunch break (on your own) from 1 to 2 pm, and afternoon lectures. Some evening events are also scheduled, and the IFOA runs dozens of author readings and talks, many of them free to Humber workshop participants. The workshop costs $849.
To apply for the Kobzar Writer's Scholarship, please state prominently your intent in the cover letter of your application. Because competition for scholarships is high, applicants must provide a statement explaining their financial situation, some proof of need, and a credit card number. Please include two identical copies (no more than 15 pages each) of an excerpt from your work of non-fiction, fiction, poetry or play for assessment. Please ensure that pages are numbered, double-spaced in 12-point font, and that your name appears on each page. Include two copies of a cover letter that tells a little about yourself and your writing. Complete the application form found on the website.
The Kobzar Writers' Scholarships are offered to Canadian writers whose narrative develops a Canadian Ukrainian theme.

The Shevchenko Foundation offers the Kobzar Writer's Scholarship annually to a Canadian writer with an advanced manuscript on a Ukrainian Canadian theme. This full tuition scholarship is intended to assist the writer to advance his/her work toward publication.
Canadian writers are encouraged to expand their writing interests through explorations of unique aspects of Ukrainian Canadian immigration history, the cultural and social values of that community and/or political issues and links with Ukraine. Narratives, whether personal or research based, must demonstrate substantial connectedness with Ukrainian Canadian issues and heritage.
Applications for this scholarship must firstly satisfy the admission requirements of the Humber School for Writers.

Kobzar $25,000 Literary Award is awarded biennially to Canadian authors whose narratives develop a Ukrainian Canadian theme with literary merit. Shortlisted authors receive $1,500.
Submission deadline January 15, 2017 for award announced in March 2018.
Works may be submitted by authors, literary agents and publishers.
